Objective:

The objective of the course is to provide students approaches to hypertext literature and  a writing workshop to experiment the potential embedded in the incorporation of literary text and interactive media.

Outline:

1.  Webpage Making

Learning Frontpage, HTML, and other Web applications

2.  Reading Classics

Analyzing the forms of expression embodied in hypertext works.

3.  Hypertext Writing

Mixing up text, image, and interactive form.


Assignments and Requests:

*Copy and paste the following to the homepage of your website:

Submit my website address by email by Week 8 (Fri).

Set up a page, by the name of "hypertext.htm," on which four links to the following 4 assignments are available.

1. An English report on an English hypertext work from our reading list* (Wk 7, typewritten, single-spaced, A4 size; the file to be uploaded after Week 11). *Talk to your instructor first if your choice is not available in the reading list.  Provide the address of the specific work in your report.

2. A dynamic logo for your website (Wk 11)

*3. An English report on an English hypertext work from our reading list or a piece of creative hypertext (Chinese or English; Wk 14)  *Replaced with a quiz on Wk 15.

*4. An English report on an English hypertext work from our reading list or a piece of creative hypertext (Chinese or English; Wk 16) 

Save these 4 assignments in a floppy disc and submit the disc by Week 17 (Don't forget to add your name and number to the cover).

Be sure to turn in each assignment punctually.  Otherwise, your grade will suffer a "discount." 

Be sure to set up the website successfully and have the address available to the instructor by Week 8.  Your website address will be added to a specific student webpage.  Check it out whether your website address is listed up there one week after the submission.  Those who are unable to meet this preliminary requirement will be flunked.

Your final grade= 1st work 10% + 2nd work 10% + 3rd work/quiz 30% + 4th work 10% + quality 30% + website design 10%
